Valentine's Day Breakfast

To start the month off right you must get in the mood for valentine's day. I know that there are those who think it is a ridiculous holiday and choose not to celebrate or those who hide for the day because they think that V-day is just for the people who have someone to love. I am a believer in taking each day marked as a holiday as another reason to celebrate and bring family closer together.I love celebrating holidays,(National and family made holidays)and everything that comes with it.
Valentine's day is such a great holiday! It doesn't have to be a day of just romance, but making it a fun day for the whole family. If you have kids get them involved. Nothing is better than waking up to a Valentine's day breakfast complete with decorations and fun food.
I invite my parents and siblings over and we have a valentine's day breakfast! There is no better way to start your day than this. So here are some things I have done in the past that have been a hit with my family.
For starters the menu:

Cake batter waffles
I know... cake? for breakfast? That is probably why it's a hit, but it's so yummy!
just mix up a cake mix using directions on box and pour into waffle iron.
Serve with ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, etc.

Table decorations
Really you can do anything that is fun and festive and that has the right colors for valentine's day. reds, pinks, whites, and sometimes purples. I start of with a red and white table cloth, you can use any V-day color(s). Last year for the center piece I got some orange sticks and wound ribbon, red yarn and some fun pink shiny elastic around them. then I cut out paper hearts and cut slits in them and fed the orange sticks through them. I put them in a red tin bucket and voila! a center piece/ name placements. They are also something fun for my nieces and nephew to take home. You could also use Valentine's day pencils, which most likely would be better, but I used what I had last year and it worked.

Rose petals are fun to sprinkle on the table and you can also sprinkle Valentine's confetti for an extra sparkle.

If your budget is really low like mine has been... being married for just a few years, try using some construction/card stock paper, punch holes in it and string onto red yarn/ribbon. after each heart, tie a ribbon and it makes a fun heart garland.

Leaving notes around the house on heart paper for everyone in the family and letting them find it throughout the day can be a fun family thing too. Or if you want to do that for your special someone, they will love you even more for it.

Putting pictures of you and your special loved one around the house is a good sentimental decoration, reminding you of each other and all the things you have done together.

You can give each member of the family a fun V-day sticker as they come in for breakfast just making it even more festive. Kids love stickers.

Put some V-day candy out in a fun dish that everyone can snack on during the day. Remember... it's just for the day.

And Last but not least... don't forget to dress up in your fun Valentine's day clothes or PJs!

There are so many things you can do... I will post more ideas in the next few days. Hope this gives you some more ideas for your special Valentine's day breakfast!
